The question, in short

Complete the net of a right-angled triangular prism on a 1 cm² grid, then calculate the prism's volume using the given dimensions.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 3 marks

On the 1 cm² grid, finish drawing the net of the prism; one 4 cm by 4 cm square face is already shown.

  1. 1Draw a 4 cm by 3 cm rectangle on one side of the square
  2. 2Draw a 4 cm by 5 cm rectangle on the opposite side
  3. 3Draw the two right-angled triangles (3 cm and 4 cm sides) on the 4 cm edges so each 5 cm side meets the 5 cm rectangle when folded

AnswerCorrect net: 4 × 4 square with a 3 × 4 rectangle and a 5 × 4 rectangle joined to opposite sides, and two right-angled triangles with sides 3 cm and 4 cm on the other edges

Part (b) · 2 marks

Work out the volume of the triangular prism from its 3 cm, 4 cm, 5 cm and 4 cm dimensions.

  1. 1Area of triangle = 1/2 × 3 × 4 = 6 cm²
  2. 2Volume = 6 × 4 = 24 cm³
