The question, in short

Given heights and ranges for 4 adults and 3 children, find the range and median height of all 7 people combined.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 3 marks

Work out the range of heights across all 7 people using the adult and child ranges.

  1. 1Tallest adult = 1.59 + 0.25 = 1.84 m
  2. 2Shortest child = 1.43 − 0.38 = 1.05 m
  3. 3Range = 1.84 − 1.05 = 0.79 m

Answer0.79

Part (b) · 1 mark

State the median height of the 7 people.

  1. 1All 3 children are shorter than all 4 adults (1.43 < 1.59)
  2. 2In order, the 4th of 7 heights is the shortest adult
  3. 3Median = 1.59 m

Answer1.59
