The question, in short
Using a 1 cm² grid diagram with a shaded shape and five labelled shapes A to E, identify the congruent shape and find the area of shape B.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
State which labelled shape is congruent to the shaded shape.
- 1Congruent means same shape and same size (it may be rotated or reflected)
- 2Shape D is the shaded shape rotated, so the answer is D
AnswerD
Part (b) · 1 mark
Work out the area of shape B in cm².
- 1Split B along the line 2 squares up: a trapezium and a triangle
- 2Trapezium = (6 + 4)/2 × 2 = 10 cm²
- 3Triangle = 1/2 × 4 × 2 = 4 cm²
- 4Area = 10 + 4 = 14 cm²
