Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 41 (Extended) · Calculator · 15 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Use a cuboid brick diagram (19.4 cm by 9.2 cm by 5.7 cm) to find surface area and mass, then solve brick cost, wall-building date, and cylinder capacity problems.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (ai) · 3 marks

Calculate the total surface area of the cuboid brick with dimensions 19.4 cm, 9.2 cm and 5.7 cm.

  1. 12 × (19.4 × 9.2 + 5.7 × 9.2 + 19.4 × 5.7)
  2. 2= 2 × (178.48 + 52.44 + 110.58) = 2 × 341.5
  3. 3= 683 cm²

Answer683

Part (aii) · 3 marks

Given density 1.9 g/cm³, work out the brick's mass in kilograms using density = mass ÷ volume.

  1. 1Volume = 19.4 × 9.2 × 5.7 = 1017.336 cm³
  2. 2Mass = 1017.336 × 1.9 = 1932.9… g
  3. 3= 1.932… ≈ 1.933 kg

Answer1.930 or 1.932 to 1.933

Part (b) · 3 marks

Find the cost of bricks for 5 houses, given 9000 bricks per house and 200 bricks costing $175.

  1. 1Cost per house = 9000 ÷ 200 × 175 = 45 × 175 = $7875
  2. 25 houses = 5 × 7875 = $39 375

Answer39 375

Part (c) · 3 marks

Saskia lays 40 bricks per hour, 9 hours daily, starting 6 July; find the completion date for 1500 bricks.

  1. 1Bricks per day = 40 × 9 = 360
  2. 2Days = 1500 ÷ 360 = 4.16…, so she works 5 days
  3. 36, 7, 8, 9, 10 July: she finishes on 10 July

Answer10 July

Part (d) · 3 marks

Calculate the capacity in litres of a cylinder with height 105 cm and diameter 45 cm.

  1. 1Radius = 45 ÷ 2 = 22.5 cm
  2. 2Volume = π × 22.5² × 105 = 166 995… cm³
  3. 3÷ 1000 = 166.99… ≈ 167 litres

Answer167 or 166.9 to 167.0…
