The question, in short
Three short algebra tasks: expand a product, factorise an expression fully, and solve a linear equation.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Expand x(x + 8).
- 1x × x + x × 8 = x² + 8x
Answerx² + 8x
Part (b) · 2 marks
Factorise 6a − 3ab completely.
- 1The highest common factor of 6a and 3ab is 3a.
- 26a ÷ 3a = 2 and 3ab ÷ 3a = b
- 3So 6a − 3ab = 3a(2 − b)
Answer3a(2 − b)
Part (c) · 2 marks
Solve 5x − 6 = x + 3 for x.
- 15x − x = 3 + 6
- 24x = 9
- 3x = 2.25
Answer2.25 or 2 1/4
