The question, in short

Two parallel lines are crossed by two straight lines meeting on the upper parallel line; given angles 50° and 114°, find x.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 2 marks

  1. 1Angles on a straight line at the lower line: 180 − 114 = 66°
  2. 2Corresponding angles: the same 66° appears at the point on the upper line
  3. 3At that point 50°, x° and 66° make a straight line (vertically opposite angles)
  4. 4x = 180 − 66 − 50 = 64
