The question, in short

Two similar shapes have dimensions 6.3 cm by 9 cm and h cm by 5 cm; find h, then use the smaller area of 16 cm² to work out the larger area.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Work out the missing height h of the smaller shape using the similarity of the two shapes.

  1. 1Scale factor = 9/5 = 1.8
  2. 2h = 6.3 ÷ 1.8 = 3.5

Answer3.5

Part (b) · 2 marks

Given the smaller shape's area is 16 cm², determine the area of the larger shape.

  1. 1Area scale factor = (9/5)² = 3.24
  2. 2Area = 16 × 3.24 = 51.84 cm²

Answer51.84
