The question, in short

Solve an index equation in p using powers of 3, then simplify a fractional power expression involving 32 and x to the 10.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Given 3³ᵖ × 3²ᵖ = 729, find the value of p.

  1. 13³ᵖ × 3²ᵖ = 3⁵ᵖ and 729 = 3⁶
  2. 25p = 6
  3. 3p = 1.2

Answer1.2

Part (b) · 2 marks

Simplify (32x¹⁰)^(1/5).

  1. 132^(1/5) = 2 and (x¹⁰)^(1/5) = x²
  2. 2= 2x²

Answer2x²
