The question, in short

Two sequence questions: continue a given list of four terms, and work backwards using a multiply-by-3-then-subtract-1 rule with fourth term 68.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 1 mark

Given the first four terms 10, 16, 22, 28, write down the next term.

  1. 1The terms go up by 6
  2. 228 + 6 = 34

Answer34

Part (b) · 2 marks

A sequence uses multiply by 3 and subtract 1; the fourth term is 68, so find the third term.

  1. 13 × (3rd term) − 1 = 68
  2. 23rd term = (68 + 1) ÷ 3 = 23
