0580/21 Oct/Nov 2025, Question 8: Constructing Equations

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 21 (Extended) · Non-calculator · 5 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Form simultaneous equations from 3 oranges and 1 apple costing 51 cents, and 6 oranges and 5 apples costing 129 cents, then solve for t and w showing all working.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 5 marks

  1. 13t + w = 51 and 6t + 5w = 129
  2. 2Double the first: 6t + 2w = 102
  3. 3Subtract: 3w = 129 − 102 = 27, so w = 9
  4. 43t + 9 = 51, so 3t = 42 and t = 14
  5. 5t = 14, w = 9

Answert = 14, w = 9
