The question, in short

Simplify two algebraic fraction expressions: a division of p/t by 2/t, and a subtraction of (x − 1)/2 from 3x/4.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Simplify p/t ÷ 2/t, giving the result as a single fraction.

  1. 1p/t ÷ 2/t = p/t × t/2
  2. 2= p/2

Answerp/2

Part (b) · 2 marks

Simplify 3x/4 − (x − 1)/2 into one fraction in its simplest form.

  1. 13x/4 − 2(x − 1)/4 = (3x − 2(x − 1))/4
  2. 2= (3x − 2x + 2)/4 = (x + 2)/4

Answer(x + 2)/4 or x/4 + 1/2
