The question, in short

Using two triangles A and B drawn on a coordinate grid, identify the single transformation taking A to B, then plot A's image after a given column-vector translation.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 3 marks

State the one transformation, with all its details, that carries triangle A onto triangle B.

  1. 1Vertical side of A = 3, of B = 1.5, so scale factor = 1.5 ÷ 3 = 0.5
  2. 2Each vertex of B is half the coordinates of A: (−4, −2) → (−2, −1)
  3. 3Enlargement, centre (0, 0), scale factor 0.5

AnswerEnlargement, centre (0, 0), scale factor 0.5

Part (b) · 2 marks

Draw the new triangle produced by moving shape A by the column vector (6, 7).

  1. 1Add 6 to each x-coordinate and 7 to each y-coordinate
  2. 2(−4, −2) → (2, 5), (−4, −5) → (2, 2), (−2, −5) → (4, 2)
  3. 3Draw the triangle with vertices (2, 2), (4, 2) and (2, 5)

AnswerTriangle at (2,2) (4,2) (2,5)
