The question, in short

Using a travel graph of Bob's trip from town A to town B, identify when he rested and work out his average speed for the entire journey in km/h.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

State the two times between which Bob paused, and justify this using the flat section of the graph.

  1. 1The graph is horizontal from 10 30 to 11 15
  2. 210 30 and 11 15 because the line is horizontal, so the distance from town A stays the same

Answer10 30 and 11 15 because the line is horizontal / distance remains the same

Part (b) · 3 marks

Work out Bob's average speed in km/h across the whole trip.

  1. 1Total distance = 625 km
  2. 2Total time = 08 00 to 14 15 = 6 h 15 min = 6.25 h
  3. 3Average speed = 625 ÷ 6.25 = 100 km/h
