Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 32 (Core) · Calculator · 3 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

From a scatter diagram of twelve students' Paper 1 and Paper 2 scores, identify the correlation, draw a line of best fit, and use it to estimate a Paper 2 score for a Paper 1 score of 35.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 1 mark

State the kind of correlation visible in the scatter diagram of the twelve students' scores.

  1. 1As Paper 1 score increases, Paper 2 score increases: positive correlation

Answerpositive

Part (b) · 1 mark

Draw a line of best fit on the given scatter diagram.

  1. 1Draw a ruled line through the middle of the points, about as many above as below
  2. 2e.g. from about (5, 8) to (45, 58), through the mean point (27, 35.5)

AnswerAcceptable ruled line of best fit

Part (c) · 1 mark

For a Paper 1 score of 35, use your line of best fit to estimate the Paper 2 score.

  1. 1Go up from 35 on Paper 1 to the line, then across
  2. 2Line gradient = 50 ÷ 40 = 1.25, so y = 8 + 1.25 × (35 − 5) = 45.5
  3. 3Estimate ≈ 45.5 (any value 42 to 47 from a good line)

Answer42 to 47
