The question, in short
Solve the equation x^(1/3) + 1 = 6/x^(1/3) for x.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 4 marks
- 1Multiply through by x^(1/3): x^(2/3) + x^(1/3) − 6 = 0
- 2(x^(1/3) + 3)(x^(1/3) − 2) = 0
- 3x^(1/3) = −3 or x^(1/3) = 2
- 4x = −27 or x = 8
Answerx = −27, x = 8
