The question, in short
Using a scale drawing with scale 1 cm to 2 km, find the real distance and bearing between villages A and B, then construct the equidistant path from both.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (ai) · 2 marks
Measure the length AB on the drawing and convert it to actual distance using the scale 1 cm to 2 km.
- 1Measure AB on the drawing: 9.3 to 9.7 cm
- 2Actual distance = length in cm × 2 km
- 3AB = 9.3 × 2 = 18.6 km to 9.7 × 2 = 19.4 km
Answer18.6 to 19.4
Part (aii) · 1 mark
Measure the bearing of B from A using the North arrow at A.
- 1Measure the angle clockwise from the North line at A round to the line AB
- 2Bearing of B from A = 238° to 242°
Answer238 to 242
Part (b) · 2 marks
With straight edge and compasses only, construct the locus of points equidistant from A and B.
- 1With compasses set to more than half of AB, draw arcs from A above and below AB
- 2With the same radius, draw arcs from B to cut them
- 3Rule a line through the two crossing points: the perpendicular bisector of AB
AnswerAcceptable perpendicular bisector of AB with two pairs of correct arcs
