The question, in short

Two travel-time questions: find the duration of a train journey between two clock times, then find a bus's average speed in km/h from its departure and arrival times and a 24 km distance.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 1 mark

Work out how long the train journey lasts, given departure at 07 43 and arrival at 10 27.

  1. 107 43 to 09 43 = 2 hours; 09 43 to 10 27 = 44 minutes
  2. 22 hours 44 minutes

Answer2 hours 44 minutes

Part (b) · 3 marks

Using departure 06 25, arrival 07 05 and 24 km, calculate the bus's average speed in km/h.

  1. 1Time = 06 25 to 07 05 = 40 minutes = 40/60 h
  2. 2Speed = 24 ÷ (40/60)
  3. 3= 36 km/h
