4024/11 May/Jun 2024, Question 9: Distance-Time Graphs

Cambridge O Level Mathematics 4024 · Paper 11 (Non-calculator) · Non-calculator · 3 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Use a distance–time graph with stages AB and BC to find the cyclist's average speed for BC, then find the time a bus at 20 km/h takes for 50 km.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

From the graph, work out the average speed for stage BC, from B at 09 00 to C at 09 30.

  1. 1Distance BC = 27 − 21 = 6 km
  2. 2Time = 09 30 − 09 00 = 30 min = 0.5 h
  3. 3Speed = 6 ÷ 0.5 = 12 km/h

Answer12

Part (b) · 1 mark

A bus averages 20 km/h; work out how long it takes to travel 50 km.

  1. 1Time = 50 ÷ 20 = 2.5 hours
