The question, in short

Using two shapes drawn on a coordinate grid, work out the transformation linking them, then handle a reflection of shape A given two image vertices.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 3 marks

State the single transformation, with all its details, that takes shape A onto shape B.

  1. 1Shape is turned a quarter turn clockwise: rotation 90° clockwise
  2. 2(−3, 2) → (3, 6) and (−1, 2) → (3, 4)
  3. 3Centre found where perpendicular bisectors meet: (2, 1)

AnswerRotation, 90° clockwise, centre (2, 1)

Part (bi) · 1 mark

Given two vertices of shape C at (−3, 6) and (−1, 6), give the equation of the mirror line.

  1. 1(−3, 2) → (−3, 6) and (−1, 2) → (−1, 6)
  2. 2Mirror line is halfway between y = 2 and y = 6: y = 4

Answery = 4

Part (bii) · 2 marks

Using that reflection, work out the coordinates of the remaining two vertices of shape C.

  1. 1(−3, 2) → (−3, 6), so the mirror line is halfway: y = 4
  2. 2(−2, 3) is 1 below y = 4, so it goes to (−2, 5)
  3. 3(−3, 3) is 1 below y = 4, so it goes to (−3, 5)
  4. 4Other two vertices: (−3, 5) and (−2, 5)

Answer(−3, 5) and (−2, 5)
