4024/13 May/Jun 2025, Question 19: Describing Transformations

Cambridge O Level Mathematics 4024 · Paper 13 (Non-calculator) · Non-calculator · 3 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Using the grid, describe completely the one transformation that takes triangle A with vertices (−5, −2), (−1, −2), (−5, −4) onto triangle B with vertices (2, 1), (4, 1), (4, 2).

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1Lines through corresponding vertices, e.g. (−5, −2) to (4, 1) and (−1, −2) to (2, 1), cross at (1, 0)
  2. 2Triangle B is upside down on the other side of (1, 0), so the scale factor is negative
  3. 3Side 4 units in A becomes 2 units in B: size factor 2/4 = 1/2
  4. 4Enlargement, centre (1, 0), scale factor −1/2

AnswerEnlargement, centre (1, 0), scale factor −1/2
