The question, in short

Using a scale diagram where 1 cm represents 30 m, work out the real distance and bearing of ship B from ship A, then locate and mark a third ship C from two given bearings.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Measure the length AB on the diagram and convert it to the actual distance in metres using the scale 1 cm to 30 m.

  1. 1Measure AB on the diagram: 5.4 to 5.8 cm
  2. 2Distance = length in cm × 30
  3. 3= 162 to 174 m

Answer162 to 174

Part (b) · 1 mark

Measure the bearing of B from A, giving the angle in degrees from North.

  1. 1Measure clockwise from the North line at A to AB
  2. 2Bearing = 123° to 127°

Answer123 to 127

Part (c) · 2 marks

Draw the bearing 164° from A and 252° from B, then mark and label their intersection as C.

  1. 1At A draw a line on a bearing of 164° (164° clockwise from North)
  2. 2At B draw a line on a bearing of 252°
  3. 3C is where the two lines cross: label it C

AnswerC in correct position
