The question, in short
Using two fair spinners, complete a sum sample space, find a probability for scores above 10, then find a probability for products above 30 when spinner A is spun twice.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (ai) · 1 mark
Fill in the missing totals in the addition table for spinner A across and spinner B down.
- 1Add the Spinner A number to the Spinner B number in each cell
- 2Row 1: 3, 5, 7, 9; Row 1: 3, 5, 7, 9; Row 3: 5, 7, 9, 11; Row 5: 7, 9, 11, 13
Answer| + | 2 | 4 | 6 | 8 | | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | 9 | | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | 9 | | 3 | 5 | 7 | 9 | 11 | | 5 | 7 | 9 | 11 | 13 |
Part (aii) · 2 marks
Work out the probability that the total of the two spinners is greater than 10.
- 1Total outcomes = 4 × 4 = 16
- 2Scores greater than 10: 11, 11, 13 → 3 outcomes
- 3P(score > 10) = 3/16
Answer3/16
Part (b) · 2 marks
Spinner A is spun twice and the numbers multiplied; find the probability the product exceeds 30.
- 1Products greater than 30: 4 × 8 = 32, 8 × 4 = 32, 6 × 6 = 36, 6 × 8 = 48, 8 × 6 = 48, 8 × 8 = 64
- 26 successful outcomes out of 4 × 4 = 16
- 3P(score > 30) = 6/16
