Part (a) · 2 marks

Fill in the missing addition results in the grid, with the first pick along the top and the second pick down the side.

  1. 1Row 5: 1 + 5 = 6, 2 + 5 = 7, 3 + 5 = 8
  2. 2Row 6: 1 + 6 = 7, 2 + 6 = 8, 3 + 6 = 9

Answer| + | 1 | 2 | 3 | | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 |

Part (b) · 2 marks

Knowing the sum is odd, work out the probability that 3 is one of the two chosen values.

  1. 1Odd totals: 5, 7, 7, 7, 9, which is 5 outcomes
  2. 2Those using 3: 3 + 4 = 7 and 3 + 6 = 9, which is 2 outcomes
  3. 3Probability = 2/5
