The question, in short
Using a Venn diagram for whole numbers 1 to 12, list members of sets and find a probability for a randomly chosen number.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
List the numbers that belong to set A.
- 1Read the numbers inside set A: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12
Answer2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12
Part (b) · 1 mark
List the numbers in the intersection of sets A and B.
- 1Find the numbers in both A and B: 8, 10, 12
Answer8, 10, 12
Part (c) · 1 mark
List the numbers outside both set A and set B.
- 1List all whole numbers from 1 to 12 not in A or B: 1, 3, 5
Answer1, 3, 5
Part (d) · 2 marks
Find the probability that a randomly chosen number lies in A union B.
- 1From part (c), the numbers not in A ∪ B are 1, 3 and 5
- 2So A ∪ B contains the remaining numbers: 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12
- 3That is 9 numbers
- 4There are 12 numbers in the Venn diagram
- 5P(number is in A ∪ B) = 9/12
Answer9/12
