The question, in short
Using a histogram of Year 11 heights, where 160 students fall between 155 cm and 170 cm, find how many students are in Year 11 overall.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Solution · 4 marks
- 1Let the 160−170 bar have height x, so the 155−160 bar is 2x
- 2Area of these bars: 5 × 2x + 10 × x = 160, so x = 8
- 3Frequency densities: 7.2, 16, 8, 6, 2.4
- 4Other bars: 7.2 × 15 = 108, 6 × 15 = 90, 2.4 × 5 = 12
- 5Total = 108 + 160 + 90 + 12 = 370
