Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Write 40 g as a fraction of 0.75 kg, giving the answer in simplest form.

  1. 1Write both weights in the same units: 0.75 kg = 0.75 × 1000 = 750 g
  2. 240 g as a fraction of 750 g = 40/750
  3. 3Divide numerator and denominator by 10: 40/750 = 4/75
  4. 44 and 75 have no common factor, so the fraction is 4/75

Answer4/75

Part (b) · 2 marks

Using 6.8 g protein per 100 g cereal, work out the protein in one 40 g helping.

  1. 1There are 6.8 g of protein in every 100 g of cereal
  2. 2A helping is 40 g, which is 40/100 of 100 g
  3. 3Protein = 40/100 × 6.8
  4. 440/100 × 6.8 = 0.4 × 6.8
  5. 5The amount of protein in each helping is 2.72 g

Answer2.72

Part (c) · 2 marks

Given 3 g of each 40 g helping is fat, write 3 g as a percentage of 40 g.

  1. 13 g as a fraction of 40 g = 3/40
  2. 2To change to a percentage, multiply by 100: 3/40 × 100
  3. 33 ÷ 40 = 0.075
  4. 40.075 × 100 = 7.5
  5. 53 g is 7.5% of 40 g

Answer7.5
