The question, in short
Three short algebra tasks: expand a bracket, factorise an expression, and solve a linear equation showing working.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Multiply out 5(3a + 4).
- 15 × 3a = 15a
- 25 × 4 = 20
- 315a + 20
Answer15a + 20
Part (b) · 1 mark
Write 4c − 14 in factorised form.
- 1Find the highest common factor of 4 and 14, which is 2
- 24c ÷ 2 = 2c
- 3−14 ÷ 2 = −7
- 42(2c − 7)
Answer2(2c − 7)
Part (c) · 3 marks
Find x from 5x − 11 = x + 6, showing clear algebraic steps.
- 15x − 11 = x + 6
- 25x − x = 6 + 11
- 34x = 17
- 4x = 17 ÷ 4
- 5x = 4.25
Answer4.25
