The question, in short
Particle P moves on a line through fixed point O with displacement s = t³ − 9t² + 33t − 6 metres at time t seconds (t ≥ 0). Find the minimum speed of P.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 5 marks
- 1Velocity v = ds/dt = 3t² − 18t + 33
- 2Speed is least when acceleration dv/dt = 6t − 18 = 0, so t = 3
- 3v = 3(3)² − 18(3) + 33 = 27 − 54 + 33 = 6
