The question, in short

Using k = t/(a − h) with t = 14, a = 7.8, h = 3.4 each given to 2 significant figures, find the lower bound of k, showing working.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1Bounds: t from 13.5 to 14.5, a from 7.75 to 7.85, h from 3.35 to 3.45
  2. 2Smallest k uses the smallest t and the largest a − h
  3. 3k = 13.5 ÷ (7.85 − 3.35) = 13.5 ÷ 4.5 = 3.0
