Part (a) · 1 mark
Arrange all five discs to form the smallest possible number.
- 1Arrange the digits 4, 1, 2, 8, 3 in ascending order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 8
- 2Form the number using smallest digit first: 12 348
Answer12 348
Part (b) · 1 mark
Arrange all five discs to form the largest even number.
- 1An even number must end in an even digit: 2, 4 or 8
- 2Ending in 2 leaves 8, 4, 3, 1 for the front, biggest first: 84312
- 3Ending in 4 or 8 gives smaller numbers (83214, 43218), so the answer is 84 312
Answer84 312
Part (c) · 2 marks
From the disc numbers 4, 1, 2, 8, 3, state which are factors of 21.
- 1List the numbers on the discs: 4, 1, 2, 8, 3
- 2Check which of these are factors of 21
- 3Factors of 21 are: 1, 3, 7, 21
- 4From the discs, 1 and 3 are in this list
- 5So the factors of 21 are 1 and 3
Answer1,3
Part (d) · 2 marks
From the disc numbers 4, 1, 2, 8, 3, state which are prime numbers.
- 1A prime number has exactly two factors: 1 and itself
