Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Identify which of the five listed times is closest to 6 pm and give its letter.
- 16 pm is 18:00 on the 24-hour clock
- 2D is 18:12, only 12 minutes away; the next closest, E, is 1 h 15 min away
- 3So the time nearest to 6 pm is D
AnswerD
Part (b) · 2 marks
Calculate how many hours and minutes separate time A from time E.
- 1From 11:53 to 12:00 is 7 minutes
- 2From 12:00 to 16:45 is 4 hours 45 minutes
- 3Total = 4 hours 52 minutes
Answer4 hours 52 minutes or 4:52
Part (c) · 3 marks
Given cooking starts at time B and ends at time E, use the rule (weight in kg × 40, plus 15) to find the chicken's weight.
- 1From 15:20 to 16:45 is 1 hour 25 minutes = 85 minutes
- 2Rule: weight × 40 + 15 = 85
- 3weight × 40 = 70, so weight = 70 ÷ 40 = 1.75
Answer1.75
Part (d) · 2 marks
Write a formula expressing T, the cooking minutes, in terms of k, the chicken's weight in kilograms, using the given rule.
- 1Multiply weight k by 40: 40k
- 2Add 15: 40k + 15
- 3So T = 40k + 15
AnswerT = 40k + 15
