The question, in short

Given that y varies inversely with the square root of x, and y equals c⁴ when x equals c² for positive constant c, derive a simplified formula expressing y using x and c.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1y is inversely proportional to √x, so y = k/√x
  2. 2When x = c², √x = √(c²) = c, and y = c⁴
  3. 3c⁴ = k/c
  4. 4k = c⁴ × c = c⁵
  5. 5y = c⁵/√x

Answery = c⁵/√x
