Part (a) · 3 marks
Find a formula expressing A in terms of r using the inverse square relationship and the given pair of values.
- 1Inversely proportional to r²: A = k/r²
- 25 = k/0.3² = k/0.09
- 3k = 5 × 0.09 = 0.45
- 4A = 0.45/r²
AnswerA = 0.45/r²
Part (b) · 3 marks
Using the proportionality, find A when r = 7.5A.
- 1A = 0.45 / r² and r = 7.5A
- 2A = 0.45 / (7.5A)²
- 3(7.5A)² = 56.25A², so A = 0.45 / (56.25A²)
- 4Multiply both sides by 56.25A²: 56.25A³ = 0.45
- 5A³ = 0.45 ÷ 56.25 = 0.008
- 6A = ∛0.008
- 7A = 0.2
