The question, in short

Substitute given values into two formulas and work out the unknown, finding y from y = c − dx and p from t = 4(p − q).

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Using c = 15, d = 8 and x = −4, calculate the value of y in y = c − dx.

  1. 115 − 8 × (−4) = 15 + 32
  2. 215 + 32 = 47

Answer47

Part (b) · 2 marks

Given t = 18 and q = 6, find the value of p in t = 4(p − q).

  1. 1Substitute: 18 = 4(p − 6)
  2. 2Divide by 4: 4.5 = p − 6
  3. 3p = 4.5 + 6 = 10.5

Answer10.5
