The question, in short
Factorise an expression, solve a formula for p given d and r, and write expressions for packets and sweets bought using m and n.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Factorise 15 − 5x.
- 1HCF of 15 and 5x is 5
- 215 − 5x = 5(3 − x)
Answer5(3 − x)
Part (b) · 3 marks
Find p when d = 35 and r = 2 in d = 5p + 7r.
- 135 = 5p + 7 × 2
- 235 = 5p + 14
- 35p = 35 − 14 = 21
- 4p = 21 ÷ 5 = 4.2
Answer4.2
Part (ci) · 1 mark
Write an expression in m and n for how many packets Ben buys in total.
- 1m small packets and n large packets
- 2Total packets = m + n
Answerm + n
Part (cii) · 2 marks
Write an expression in m and n for the total sweets, using 12 per small and 25 per large packet.
- 1Sweets in small packets: 12 × m = 12m
- 2Sweets in large packets: 25 × n = 25n
- 3Total sweets = 12m + 25n
Answer12m + 25n
