The question, in short
Using a right-angled triangle with a 72° angle and a 12.8 cm side, find the perimeter of a shape made from five such triangles, to 3 significant figures.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Solution · 5 marks
- 1Short side = 12.8 ÷ tan 72° = 4.1589… cm
- 2Hypotenuse = 12.8 ÷ sin 72° = 13.458… cm
- 3Each triangle adds 12.8 and the uncovered hypotenuse 13.458… − 4.1589… = 9.299…
- 4Perimeter = 5 × 12.8 + 5 × 9.299… = 110.497…
- 5To 3 s.f., perimeter (cm) = 110
