Part (a) · 2 marks
Expand and simplify 3(c − 7) + 2(3c + 4).
- 13(c − 7) = 3c − 21
- 22(3c + 4) = 6c + 8
- 33c − 21 + 6c + 8 = (3c + 6c) + (−21 + 8)
- 49c − 13
Answer9c − 13
Part (b) · 2 marks
Expand and simplify (x + 7)(x − 2).
- 1(x + 7)(x − 2) = x² − 2x + 7x − 14
- 2x² + 5x − 14
Answerx² + 5x − 14
Part (c) · 2 marks
Factorise fully 28y² − 21y.
- 1Factorise 28y² − 21y
- 2Common factor of 7 and y
- 37y × 4y = 28y²
- 47y × (−3) = −21y
- 57y(4y − 3)
Answer7y(4y − 3)
