The question, in short

Given a = 6 to the nearest integer and b = 15 to the nearest 5, find the upper bound of C = b − a, showing working.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1b is correct to the nearest 5, so upper bound of b = 17.5
  2. 2a is correct to the nearest integer, so lower bound of a = 5.5
  3. 3C = b − a, so upper bound of C = 17.5 − 5.5
  4. 417.5 − 5.5 = 12
