Part (a) · 5 marks
Calculate Josh's percentage profit from buying 120 books at £4 each and selling halves and percentages at £5, £7 and £8.
- 1Cost = 120 × 4 = 480
- 260 books × 5 = 300 and 48 books × 7 = 336
- 3Rest = 120 − 60 − 48 = 12 books: 12 × 8 = 96
- 4Income = 300 + 336 + 96 = 732, profit = 732 − 480 = 252
- 5Percentage profit = 252 ÷ 480 × 100 = 52.5
Answer52.5
Part (b) · 3 marks

- 2120% corresponds to £15
- 315 ÷ 1.2 = 12.5
- 412.5 = £12.50
