The question, in short
Using a Venn diagram holding the numbers 1 to 14 in sets A and B, list set members and find a probability for a randomly picked number.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
List the numbers that lie in both set A and set B.
- 1Identify the region where sets A and B overlap
- 2List the numbers in both A and B: 2, 4, 6, 12
Answer2, 4, 6, 12
Part (b) · 1 mark
List the numbers that are not in set B.
- 1Identify all numbers not in set B
- 2List the numbers outside circle B: 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14
Answer5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14
Part (c) · 2 marks
Find the probability that a randomly chosen number is in A but not in B.
- 1From the Venn diagram, A ∩ B = 2, 4, 6, 12
- 2The numbers in A but not in B are 8, 10, 14
- 3So 3 of the numbers are in A but not in B
- 4There are 14 numbers altogether
- 5P(number is in A but not in B) = 3/14
Answer3/14
