Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Solution · 3 marks
- 1The median is 8, so the third number when ordered must be 8.
- 2The mode is 5, so 5 must appear more than once; at least two 5s.
- 3The range is 10, so the difference between the largest and smallest number is 10.
- 4The total sum is 45.
- 5Start with two 5s and include 8 as the median: 5, 5, 8, _, _.
- 6Smallest number is 5, so largest must be 5 + 10 = 15.
- 7Now we have: 5, 5, 8, _, 15.
- 8Sum so far: 5 + 5 + 8 + 15 = 33.
- 9Missing number: 45 − 33 = 12.
- 10Final numbers: 5, 5, 8, 12, 15.
Answer5, 5, 8, 12, 15
