The question, in short
Expand and simplify a product expression, rearrange a formula to make t the subject, and use an index equation to find the value of n.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Expand and simplify 3x(2x + 3) − x(3x + 5).
- 13x(2x + 3) = 6x² + 9x
- 2x(3x + 5) = 3x² + 5x
- 36x² + 9x − 3x² − 5x
- 43x² + 4x
Answer3x² + 4x
Part (b) · 2 marks
Rearrange p = at − d to make t the subject.
- 1p = at − d
- 2p + d = at
- 3t = (p + d)/a
Answert = (p + d)/a
Part (c) · 2 marks
Given (w⁵ × wⁿ) ÷ w³ = w¹⁰, work out the value of n.
- 1Multiplying adds powers: w⁵ × wⁿ = w⁵⁺ⁿ
- 2Dividing subtracts powers: w⁵⁺ⁿ ÷ w³ = w²⁺ⁿ
- 3So 2 + n = 10
- 4n = 8
