Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Simplify 8 × (4t)⁰.
- 1Anything to the power 0 equals 1, so (4t)⁰ = 1
- 28 × 1 = 8
Answer8
Part (b) · 1 mark
Given x⁶ ÷ x⁻⁵ = xᵖ, find the value of p.
- 1Dividing subtracts powers: 6 − (−5)
- 26 + 5 = 11, so p = 11
Answer11
Part (c) · 2 marks
Simplify fully (2k²m⁴)³.
- 1Cube each part: 2³ × (k²)³ × (m⁴)³
- 22³ = 8, (k²)³ = k⁶ and (m⁴)³ = m¹²
- 38k⁶m¹²
Answer8k⁶m¹²
