Solution · 5 marks
- 13/8 + 45% = 3/8 + 9/20
- 2Convert to common denominator: 15/40 + 18/40 = 33/40
- 3So payments 1 and 2 together are 33/40 of the total cost
- 4Therefore payment 3 is 1 − 33/40 = 7/40 of the total cost
- 5Payment 3 is $406, so 7/40 of total cost = 406
- 6Total cost = 406 ÷ (7/40) = 406 × (40/7) = 2320
- 7Payment 2 is 45% of total cost = 0.45 × 2320
- 80.45 × 2320 = 1044
