اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Find the area of shape ABCDE, formed from right-angled triangle ABE and square BCDE, given AB = 15 cm, AE = 17 cm and the triangle's perimeter is 40 cm.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 4 marks

  1. 1BE² = 17² − 15² = 289 − 225 = 64, so BE = 8 cm.
  2. 2The square BCDE has side 8 cm: area = 8 × 8 = 64 cm².
  3. 3Triangle ABE: area = ½ × 15 × 8 = 60 cm².
  4. 4Total area = 64 + 60 = 124
