The question, in short

Table shows rice output for Indonesia (3.5 × 10⁷ tonnes) and Argentina (8.2 × 10⁵ tonnes) in 2020. Convert one value to an ordinary number, then find Japan's output given it exceeds Argentina's by 6 780 000 tonnes, in standard form.

Write 3.5 × 10⁷ as an ordinary number.

  1. 13.5 × 10⁷ = 3.5 × 10000000
  2. 23.5 × 10000000 = 35000000

Part (b) · 2 marks

Japan produced 6 780 000 tonnes more rice than Argentina in 2020. Calculate Japan's amount and give it in standard form.

  1. 18.2 × 10⁵ = 820000
  2. 2820000 + 6780000 = 7600000
  3. 37600000 = 7.6 × 10⁶

Answer7.6 × 10⁶
