The question, in short
Find the total cost of wood for a roof support with AB = 12 m, AC = BC = 9 m and MC perpendicular to AB, at 21.50 euros per metre, with each length bought as a whole number of metres.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Solution · 4 marks
- 1AC = BC, so M is the midpoint of AB and AM = 6 m.
- 2MC² = 9² − 6² = 81 − 36 = 45, so MC = 6.71 m.
- 3Wood comes in whole metres, so buy 7 m for MC.
- 4Total length = 12 + 9 + 9 + 7 = 37 m.
- 5Cost = 37 × 21.50 = 795.50
