Solution · 4 marks

  1. 1Equal differences: (7x − 9) − (x + 2) = (x + 2) − (4x − 14)
  2. 26x − 11 = 16 − 3x, so 9x = 27 and x = 3
  3. 3Terms are −2, 5, 12, so a = −2 and d = 7
  4. 4S₄₀ = 40/2 × (2 × (−2) + 39 × 7) = 20 × 269 = 5380
