The question, in short
Complete a table of y values for y = x³ + 2x + 3 at given x values, then plot the curve on a grid for −3 ≤ x ≤ 3.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Fill in the two missing y values in the table for y = x³ + 2x + 3 at the given x values.
- 1x = −3: (−3)³ + 2(−3) + 3 = −27 − 6 + 3 = −30
- 2x = 2: 2³ + 2(2) + 3 = 8 + 4 + 3 = 15
Answer−30, 15
Part (b) · 2 marks
Draw the graph of y = x³ + 2x + 3 on the grid for x from −3 to 3.
- 1Plot the 7 points from the table
- 2(−3, −30), (−2, −9), (−1, 0), (0, 3), (1, 6), (2, 15), (3, 36)
- 3Join them with a smooth curve from x = −3 to x = 3
AnswerA smooth increasing curve through (−3, −30), (−2, −9), (−1, 0), (0, 3), (1, 6), (2, 15), (3, 36)
