The question, in short
Use the grid showing points P, Q and R to read off P's coordinates, plot a new point T at (3, −1), and work out the midpoint of QR.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
State the coordinates of point P as shown on the grid.
- 1P is 2 left of O, so x = −2
- 2P is 3 up, so y = 3
- 3(−2, 3)
Answer(−2, 3)
Part (b) · 1 mark
Plot and label point T at coordinates (3, −1) on the grid.
- 1Go 3 right from O
- 2Go 1 down
- 3Mark a cross and label it T
AnswerA cross at (3, −1) labelled T
Part (c) · 2 marks
Calculate the coordinates of the midpoint of the line segment QR.
- 1Q = (3, 4), R = (1, −2)
- 2x: (3 + 1) ÷ 2 = 2
- 3y: (4 + −2) ÷ 2 = 1
- 4Midpoint = (2, 1)
Answer(2, 1)
